Solicitors Supporting Dementia
Here at Arnold Greenwood, we understand that a diagnosis of dementia can be a challenging time for the patient and their family. We are proud to be an active member of the Kendal Dementia Action Alliance (KDAA).
The KDAA was set up in November 2014 and is made up of organisations across Kendal working together to radically improve the lives of people living with dementia and their carers. One of the aims of the KDAA is to improve the way resources are shared between voluntary organisations, charities, NHS, retail and private business and this has resulted in the publication of the Kendal Directory, where people can search for organisations, advice and for social activities in Kendal. Alison Peel, who is Head of our Private Client Department, and the staff in the department are all Dementia Friends. Being a Dementia Friend was an initiative promoted by the Alzheimer’s Society to help people understand and support those living with dementia.
Alison is happy to meet with people living with dementia and their carers to give advice on legal issues which can arise from pre-diagnosis concerns such as updating/making wills and putting lasting powers of attorney and living wills in place while they retain capacity. We are also able to provide advice relating to benefits, care home funding and, should someone have lost mental capacity without putting a lasting power of attorney in place or their affairs in order, we can make Court of Protection applications and liaise with social services, if necessary.
Please contact Alison if you need any help with these matters, or any more information regarding the Kendal Dementia Action Alliance.
